In Loving Memory of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed
October 30, 1933 – September 9th 2008

My Imam, Imam Warith Deen Mohammed, founder of a movement that shaped my entire life, departed from this life 3 years ago today, September 9, 2008 during the blessed month of Ramadan. Through him we learned much about integrity, love, compassion, mercy, faith and community. We love the Imam because of his character, his intelligence and his unyielding love for humanity. Imam Mohammed gave us all a “Worldwide Vision” for Al-Islam. He is recognized all over the world because of his heart for freedom, justice and equality, “Al-Islam”. He aimed to be a model Muslim and to build a model Muslim community and we salute him by following his footsteps.

He will be remembered as an extraordinary teacher of religion – teaching the way of the prophets, love of Scripture and human excellence. His teachings can never be referred to in the past tense because he planted his work for the world’s future benefit. We owe him a debt that we cannot ever repay, we can only work daily to honor his mission. The Atlanta Masjid family, interfaith friends, and people all over the world salute a great man, and Allah says to the righteous soul “O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! Enter thou, then among my Devotees, enter into my paradise .” (89:27-30)

It is with firm trust and hope in All-Mighty God Allah, that Imam Mohammed returned to his Lord pleased and well pleasing. May Allah Forgive him, pardon him and grant him the Paradise. Ameen.

In Loving Memory of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed, I stand in humility and awe of a great Man of God. We salute you brother Imam!

Sincerely,
Imam Mansoor Sabree
