A Celebration Honoring Imam Plemon Tauheed El-Amin

This year our community is celebrating Imam Plemon T. El-Amin, a prominent Muslim cleric and native Atlanta son, who has recently retired his post. His exceptional leadership over the last 36 years has served as a building block for a strong, vibrant, progressive Muslim community that is seen as a beacon to others across America.

Under Imam El-Amin’s leadership, the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam community has grown to include significant property holdings and accredited elementary and high schools. Helming one of the oldest Muslim communities in the country (more than 50 years), Imam El-Amin has a long track-record of civic, business and interfaith relations which spans generations and crosses state, national and international borders. Whether it is his working relationship with every mayor since Maynard Jackson or his interfaith leadership with World Pilgrims, Concerned Black Clergy, or his travels to the Vatican as a guest of Pope John Paul II; this devoted student of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed, his leader and teacher, has helped lay the foundation for a stable, thriving, intra-faith community of about 50,000 Muslims, who live, work and play throughout the Atlanta area.

In honor of his 36 years of service, we are preparing an appreciation book to be presented to him on April 9th 2010 at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel in Atlanta1. We are reaching out to those of you who have been a witness to his life, work, leadership, dedication and sacrifice.

We are asking you to support this gesture of appreciation and buy a memory page or tribute ad and make a heartfelt donation towards an honorarium. This is a perfect opportunity to permanently show your appreciation for his leadership in molding a thriving Muslim community, his many years of invaluable service to the city of Atlanta, and his elegant representation of his faith and his country around the world.
We have several other affordable ways you can join the celebration. Please see the enclosed information and choose one or more. Everyone we have spoken to is excited to be a part of this historical occasion. We hope you will take this time to put in writing your well wishes and reflections and include pictures you may have of Imam El-Amin on your page of memories. Additionally, we are seeking pictures and video clips of Imam El-Amin in action to use in the celebration materials. If you have any pictures that we may use, please send us reproducible copies (we may not be able to return originals). .

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact the appreciation book ad coordinator Amira Wazeer at 770-686-4421 or email celebration.atl@comcast.net
